Huskies Wrestling Philosophy
At RJS we will utilize the sport of wrestling to mold our student-athletes into well-rounded, productive, confident young men and women who are ready to take on the world and to achieve their dreams. These are the core principals upon which our program is established: Hard Work, Discipline, Dedication, Teamwork, and Having Fun. We hope to instill these values in our athletes to help them be successful in all of their endeavors, whether it is academics, wrestling, relationships, work, or anything else. RJS coaches will motivate our student-athletes to strive for academic success as well, focusing on a “student-first” approach.
Wrestling is a character-building sport. There are ups and downs, successes and failures, sacrifices and commitments, all of which simulate real-world experiences. In order to succeed, wrestlers must become resilient in the face of adversity. It is an individual sport where the athlete is on his own when he steps on the mat; there is no one else to lean on or to blame. Wrestlers quickly learn about accountability and responsibility, because if they haven’t practiced hard, listened to their coaches, or put in work on their own, it will be evident in their performance on the mat. At the same time, though, it is a team sport, where wrestlers support each other and where each individual success leads to a better team result. The lessons learned on a wrestling mat will benefit an athlete in real life more than any other sport. As the great Dan Gable once said, “Once you’ve wrestled, everything else in life is easy.” It takes a special person to be a wrestler, but being a wrestler also makes a person special.
